Mission Statement
The mission of The Family Resource Center for Abuse Prevention and Counseling is two fold:
We are committed to social change by raising awareness of the causes and consequences of abuse and violence in our communities.
As a victim-centered organization, we provide quality counseling and support services to child and adult survivors of emotional, physical, and sexual trauma along with their family members.
History
Since 1985, The Family Resource Center has provided free and confidential survivor and family services to help people cope with the trauma of abuse. From our 24-hour toll free phone line to accompanying victims to the hosptial, The Family Resource Center is staffed by counselors and trained volunteers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Center serves Kershaw and Lee Counties. The Family Resource Center supports victims throughout the recovery process with counseling and support plus offers forensic services, guidance, and advocacy through medical and legal complexities. The Family Resource Center also serves as an active community educator providing primary prevention education programs to schools, community agencies, communities of faith, etc. in areas such as healthy relationships, bullying and harrassment, and mandated reporter trainings.
Purpose
To ensure vital services for victims/survivors of all forms of trauma (psychological, physical, and sexual).
To promote awareness and educate citizens of the state about the social and personal costs of abuse and sexual assault.
Philosophy
We believe that oppression is the root of violence. We oppose it in all of its forms, including but not limited to, racisim, sexism, classism, ageism, ethnocentrism, and homophobia.
We combat the roots of violence in ourselves, each other, and within the larger economic, political, and social (including the family) systems.
We believe that perpetrators of interpersonal violence should be held accountable for their actions.
We believe in a consensus model of leadership to ensure everyone has an equal voice in decision making.
